Weight Loss Surgeries

There are different ways of losing weight; weight loss surgery is one of them. These surgery help losing weight greatly and there are different types of surgeries:

Gastric Bypass Surgery: In this weight loss surgery bands or staples are used to restrict food intake. These bands are surgically attached to the top of the stomach so as to section off a small portion called stomach pouch with a small hole at the bottom. Because of the small outlet food slowly passes for digestion and you feel full and don’t eat much. Gastric bypass surgery is generally advised for people having BMI more than or equal to 40.

Biliopancreatic diversion: In this surgery a part of your stomach is removed and the rest is directly connected with the small intestine, bypassing the duodenum and jejunum. This results in very low absorption of nutrients and offers sustained weight loss. But this procedure needs careful monitoring as there is a risk of malnutrition.

Liposuction: It is a very common surgery for weight loss. In this procedure certain amounts of fat tissue is sucked out through operation.

Vertical banded gastroplasty: It divides the stomach into two divisions- the upper and lower section. The upper section is smaller than the lower section. But this surgery is not regarded as a very effective method for long term weight loss.

Adjustable Gastric Banding: In this weight loss surgery the stomach is portioned into two parts with the help of an inflatable band. A tiny channel is left open between the two parts so the food passes slowly and takes longer time to digest thus curbing your food intake.
