Metabolism and Weight Loss – Part 2

In my previous discussion I spoke about metabolism, I explained in simple words what metabolism means and what factors influence it. Today I will discuss how metabolism is related to weight loss.

Metabolism is a continuous process; there isn’t much we can do to control it. For this reason most people blame their metabolism for weight gain but what they don’t understand is that as it is a natural process it adjusts itself according to your daily requirements. A very good example would be fasting for weight loss. You will see that as you don’t take the required amounts of calories daily your body starts preparing for it so initially a good weight loss is seen but after a few days it decreases.  The problem is not in your metabolism, it is in you. Weight gain is the result of taking more calories than you can burn so to lose weight you can have a diet low in calories or increase your physical activities or both.

One of the best ways to burn more calories is to be more active, in fact people who are said to have a fast metabolism are usually people who are very active. In order to increase your metabolism so as  to lose weight you can always do:

Aerobics – Try doing regular aerobic exercises like cycling, swimming for about thirty minute everyday. This will increase your metabolism and help you to lose weight. If you have certain goals then you may have to devote more time. Remember the more you are active the more calories you burn.

Daily Habits - A little change in your daily habits can help you to lose weight. Start walking more everyday; avoid lifts, instead take the stairs, start doing household chores, all these may sound insignificant but they will help you to burn more calories than you usually do.

Strength Training – If possible do some heavy weight trainings. These exercises will tone the muscles of our body and build up more muscle mass. Muscles burn a lot of calories so building muscles is a good way to burn more calories and lose weight.

Instead of taking pills or supplements it is better to follow a natural way as it will not only help you to lose weight effectively, it will secure you a healthy life in the long run.
